My Fantasy Draft Results
August 22, 2008
*** Updated August 26, 2008 ***
Just finished drafting for my annual fantasy ($$) league in what was a competitive draft. I had a lot of confidence going into the draft and ended up with the 7th pick, not bad. Even though I prefer to draft closer to the end positions with back to back picks. It was a 12 team league and my roster is as follows:
Starters:
QB- Donovan McNabb
RB- Marion Barber
RB- Jonathan Stewart
WR- Braylon Edwards
WR- Steve Smith (Panthers)
Flex- Calvin Johnson
TE- Todd Heap (picked up from free agent list 8/24/08)
K- Kris Brown (Hou)
D- Green Bay
Bench:
QB- Matt Schaub
QB- Brady Quinn
RB- Chris Johnson (Titans Rookie RB)
RB- Steve Slaton
WR- Muhsin Muhammed- To use during Steve’s suspension
TE-Ben Utecht
D- Carolina- (picked up from free agent list (8/23/08)
During the draft the RBs were flying off the board and a few of the positions I wanted were being taken fast. Players I really wanted were:
Kellen Winslow Jr.
Dallas Clark
Thomas Jones
Minnesota Defense
They got scooped real fast though. I really really wanted K2 and Minnesota. But Dustin Keller will be a serviceable TE even as a rookie, especially with Favre at the helm. I think my squad has lot of potential but not enough proven RBs. That could end up hurting my team down the road. My WRs are amazing though and should be able to put up huge points for me especially when Steve Smith returns from his suspension. Green Bay and Tampa Bay defense are decent options depending on the match-ups. McNabb is a high risk/reward choice as well but I have Schaub on the bench in case. Also if Derek Anderson goes down I have Brady Quinn for a little added insurance. I was ecstatic about getting Marion Barber in round 1, I feel he is in for a monster season. I must admit that my squad has quite a few sleepers that could really be huge for me this year.
** Recent Update ** Dustin Keller is still a sleeper and a potential great pick-up, but I put him in the free agent list and decided to take Todd Heap for immediate points. I will try to pick up Dustin Keller around week 4-5 when he gets in his rhythm with Favre. I decided to keep Utecht since the Bengals WR situation is in such a flux.
How do you feel I did with my draft?

Your recievers are kick azz.. Your running back depth is a big concern though. McNabb and Jonathan Stewart are huge ex-factors, if they perform well then your golden.
Thanks Sean,
I’m really banking on J. Stew to do well but I’ve got a few trades that are in the works to bolster my RB depth. My team is full of sleepers that can skyrocket in value as the season progresses. You’re right about McNabb and J. Stew being ex-factors, they really are.
You have a competitive team, you really banked on your receivers I see. Thats an interesting approach.
Nice team…Obviously you would have liked to get a little better at the TE and RB2 position, but you got a couple sleepers on your bench there and you should be able to put a competitive RB squad out there each week. Your WR are top notch.
Brandon,
Thanks for your input, its true, I did take a few chances in this year’s draft. Jonathan Stewart is starting to look a lot better now after his 10 car., 100yd, 1 TD effort in the first half of tonights preseason game. I guess we’ll see what happens.
